Why a Size Guide?

We at Louis Copeland & sons want you to be 100% happy with your purchase. One of the most frequent reasons given by online shoppers for returning clothing is an incorrect fit.  As happy as we are to exchange or refund any purchase you are not happy with, we would prefer to provide a trouble-free and happy customer experience. Ultimately, we want to ensure that your purchase fits you as well as it does anyone who steps into one of our stores and is served personally by one of our excellent staff members.

This page is designed to help you choose your correct size. This Size Guide has been developed using our expert tailoring knowledge- after all we have been measuring our customers for nearly 100 years. We have also included some extra points on the sizing of different brands – our buyers and sales staff are very well acquainted with all the brands Louis Copeland & Sons provide, and over the years have noticed how certain brands tend to, say, cut a slimmer line than others, or be more generous with their sizing. In this Size Guide, we pass on our experts’ knowledge to you.

Taking Measurements
The most accurate results will be achieved if you take your measurements in your underwear.
Take care not to hold the measuring tape too loosely or too tightly.
Stand naturally.

Glossary

• Collar or Neck– a measurement of your neck size, taken at the base of your neck at its thickest part.
• Shoulder- a measurement from shoulder tip to shoulder tip.
• Sleeve- a measurement from the centre of the collar to the tip of the shoulder, down the length of the arm, and on to the end of the sleeve.
• Chest – measurement of the chest at its fullest part (over the shoulder blades).
• Waist – measurement of your natural waist, where your waistband or belt normally sits. If you are unsure, simply bend to the left or right – where your body ‘creases’ is your waist.
• Hip – measurement of the widest part of your hips.
• Rise – the distance from the top of your waistband to the crotch of the trousers.
• Waist – a measurement of your natural waistline; generally 20cm below where you measure your chest.
• Inside Leg – a measurement from the crotch down the length of the leg to where your trousers would stop naturally; just below your ankle.
• Leg Openings – a measurement of the circumference of the hem around the ankle of the trousers.

Casual Shirts, Casual Tops and Outerwear Size Guide:

We stock sizes from Small (S), Medium (M), Large (L), Extra Large (XL), Double Extra Large (2XL), Triple Extra Large (3XL) and 4 Extra Large (4XL).

Certain brands, however, only come in certain sizes. For example, BOSS clothing comes in size S to 3XL, while GANT products are available in sizes S to 4XL.

If you are 6ft or taller, you will probably need our long (L) length.

Formal Trousers and Suits Size Guide:

All GANT and BOSS suits and formal trousers come in a choice of Short (30” leg), Regular (32” leg) and Long (34” leg) length and finished ends (i.e., hemmed). Sizes available are: 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56, 58 and 60. These sizes correspond to the following measurements:

Casual Trousers, Jeans and Chinos Size Guide:

Leg Length: GANT and BOSS casual trousers come in a selection of four leg lengths: 30L, 32L, 34L and 36L.

Waist Sizes:  Boss offer a range from 30” – 42” (i.e., 30”, 32”, 34”, 36”, 38”, 40” and 42”) while Gant’s range runs from 30” – 46” and include two in-between sizes (30”, 32”, 33”, 34”, 35”, 36”, 38”, 40”, 42”, 44” and 46”).

Each brand has its own slight variation on standard shoe sizes; so please refer to each brands’ specific shoe size chart below.
